Enhancing Patients’ Lives We reduce patients’ pain, increase their mobility, and build their self confidence to lead more productive lives. And we work closely with them through every step of our innovative process. Meet the PhysioFitness Team: The PhysioFitness Difference The unique PhysioFitness approach starts with determining the root cause of a patient’s discomfort. Our evidence-based concept enables us to develop an individualized treatment plan to address the patient’s specific needs. PhysioFitness provides a highly effective, evidence-based approach to pain reduction and improved functional mobility (everyday movement). Studies have shown that traditional, boring, technique-driven (internal focus) therapy is inferior to our innovative, fun, external focus therapy. (Internal focus therapy says, “Move your arms like this.” External focus therapy says, “Throw this ball through that hoop.”) Altering the client/patient’s focus of attention to something fun that doesn’t feel like therapy, such as a game, enables us to offer superior treatment. Unique Results Using the same equipment as Navy SEALs and elite athletes, our patients are able to achieve results that are unattainable elsewhere. Helping our patients attain a better physical and mental state empowers them to return to a more normal life. Our therapeutic exergaming facility enables us to provide one-of-a-kind therapy […]
The American College of Physicians announced findings from a new study showing opioids aren’t the best solution for fixing back pain. Today, lower back pain is one of the most common reasons for patients to visit a doctor’s offices. The study reports that approximately one quarter of U.S. adults reported having low back pain in the past three months. However, a prescription is not the best solution. This new study explains how opioid use, among other pharmaceutical treatments, is ultimately ineffective in eliminating back pain. According to the study, evidence shows that short-term opioid use increases nausea, dizziness, constipation, somnolence and dry mouth. Many professionals recommend looking beyond the pharmacy counter to solve these pain related issues and turning to exercise and alternative solutions for long-term pain relief. Dutch-trained Physical Therapist Jan Dommerholt has been challenging opioid usage for many years. He says, “In the United States, there is an overuse of opioids to treat back pain. At PhysioFitness, we developed a way to treat back pain without the need to take many different medications such as opioids. Dommerholt has patients visiting his Maryland-based offices from all over the world after multiple failed surgeries, alternative treatments and medicine prescriptions. While […]

The list includes lower back pain, chronic tension headaches, neck aches, post-op pain, rotator cuff injury, jaw pain, hip pain, upper back pain, stroke rehab, and heel pain. Dry needling works directly on the painful points in muscles, unlike acupuncture, which is known for manipulating the flow of energy to promote healing. Treatment helps improve pain, disability, and sensitivity to pressure in those who have chronic low back pain. While not all physical therapists are trained in administering dry needling. At PhysioFitness, our CEO and Dutch-trained Physical Therapist Dr. Jan Dommerholt made significant contributions in introducing and promoting the practice of trigger-point dry needling to the physical therapy profession in the United States. Patients all over the country turn to PhysioFitness after trying countless failed therapies and treatments. Our highly-trained physical therapists have advanced credentials in the technique of dry needling. Not only do we use the technique in our clinics, we […]
