Fibromyalgia is a condition of widespread musculoskeletal pain, often experienced with tissue tenderness as well as fatigue. It is a chronic condition that affects over five million people in the United States each year. A recurrent misconception is that this is a rare condition, but it is the second most common musculoskeletal disorder, after osteoarthritis. The symptoms are vast, and while there is no known cure, there are treatments that abate the pain.

  • Widespread pain throughout the body that usually coincides with tender pressure points, joints, and muscles
  • Extreme fatigue that makes movement seemingly impossible
  • Anxiety, depression and/or decreased motivation
  • Decreased pain tolerance
  • Dryness in the mouth, eyes, and nose
  • Chronic headaches and abdominal pain
  • Hypersensitivity to the weather–specifically coldness or warmth
  • Stiffness and numbness in the hands and feet (neuropathy)
  • Incontinence and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
